This is an excellent unissued condition U. S. M1878 Canteen with the standard a tan canvas cover and belt clip strap. It has a clear U. S. stamp on the front, over R. I. A. 1909, indicating manufacture by Rock Island Arsenal in Illinois. This model of canteen would be replaced by the M1910 in the following year, so it most likely was never put into service, and kept in storage, as it was obsolete. The canteen is
